Iconic Duos of Reggaeton History

We took a trip back to the Reggaeton era, where numerous duos hit the big stages and provided us with an endless stream of classic Reggaeton tunes. Some of these duos had even overtaken solo artists, others just vanished.
Amongst these duos we had, Hector & Tito, Wisin & Yandel, Baby Rasta & Gringo, Zion and Lennox, RKM and Ken-Y, Alexis and Fido, Jowell & Randy, Angel and Khriz, Nova and Jory, Dyland and Lenny, Arcangel and De la Ghetto, Magnate and Valentino, Ñejo and Dalmata, Plan B, Chino & Nacho, Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam forming "Los Cangris" and many more that over time have been forgotten.
Hector & Tito They made way for other artists like Yankee and Don Omar in different countries of Latin America. Héctor Delgado along with Efraín David Fines, the real name of "Tito, El Bambino" began experimenting with the urban genre since they were teenagers. Their talent, creativity and persistence lead them to have a successful career from 1998 to 2004. They let the competition destroyed their relationship. Just before they split in 2003, they won a Latin Billboard Award for Latin Rap Album of the Year, for A la Reconquista (2002). Tito the highest billboard winner in history, until Ozuna broke the record. Wisin & Yandel Juan Luis Morera Luna (Wisin) and Llandel Veguilla Malavé (Yandel), “El dúo de la Historia” have split up two times. They began their career together in 1995 and continued together after winning several awards. The first happened in 2003 when they released their solo albums, Yandel with Quien Contra Mí, and Wisin with El Sobreviviente. The second split occurred in 2013 when Yandel announced his solo album De Líder a Leyenda and Wisin appeared with El Regreso del Sobreviviente. The dynamic duo has its own and very particular style. They are united by a lifetime friendship, a common passion for music and an exceptional talent; this combination makes them into one of the most complete and distinctive duos s in the Urban genre. No one can reach Yandel's backing vocals or Wisin's "chanteo". In 2005, they released a memorable album, Pa’l Mundo, it remained on the Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart more than 64 weeks and generated a series of historical hits that stayed at the top of all Latin Charts. Zion & Lennox One of the most recognizable reggaeton duos. Debuting in the early 2000s, the pair raised from the underground with their first hit, Motivando a la Yal in 2004, which topped the charts. They scored their first number one in 2016 with Motivan2. Felix Ortiz (Zion) and Gabriel Pizzaro (Lennox) grew up in Carolina, Puerto Rico and lived in the same neighbourhood. They shared an interest in hip-hop, rap, and dancehall. The duo began collaborating in the days of reggaeton's rise and found themselves increasingly drawn to the urban genre, both wide open and electric with potential. They were offered opportunities to record that opened doors to them internationally. "La Z y la L", undertook different paths in 2006, from there, we could listen to "Zun Da Da" and "Fantasma". It was not long before when they reunited again releasing hits such as "Mi Cama Huele A Ti" featuring Tito el Bambino and "Amor Genuino". Baby Rasta & Gringo Wilmer Alicea (Baby Rasta) and Samuel Gerena (Gringo), "The Easy Boyz" debuted in 1998 with the album New Prophecy. Sales of the album made the Puerto Rican grew a big fan base. The two were known for their confrontational tracks to fellow artists Hector & Tito, Wisin & Yandel, Don Omar, and many other artists, all called out by the duo. In 2004 the duo began fighting amongst themselves which led to a three-year split ,following the release of their third album, Sentenciados. The Comeback was the title of their reunion album in 2008.
RKM & Ken-Y Jose Nieves (RKM) and Kenny Vasquez (Ken-Y) united in 2004. A few years after the pair climbed the charts and began to succeed in the reggaeton world, arriving in 2006 as one of the genre's most important groups. Both from Gurabo, Puerto Rico, the duo started performing at local house parties and clubs, Ken-Y singing and RKM providing the group's lyrics and rap flow. The pair was noticed by record producer Chencho led to their first recording contract. After appearing on different mixtapes and compilations, they caught the attention of big producer Raphy Pina and they switched their label to Pina Records. Pina played an important role in the group's success, offering opportunities to work with artists such as Don Omar and Nicky Jam. Their debut record, Masterpiece had a great audience and very positive reviews.
Alexis & Fido Raul Alexis Ortiz and Joel Fido Martinez were in the Puerto Rican urban scene since they were teenagers, they joined forces in 2001 on the album Desafio. They were growing popularity and decided to continue as a duo and contributed with songs to various compilations and mixtapes, including the regional hit "El Tiburon" on Luny Tunes Mas Flow, Vol. 2. The record was a success, hitting number four on the Top Latin Albums chart and even making it into the Billboard 200. Chino & Nacho The Venezuelan duo split up in 2017. Nacho signed with Universal Music not only as an artist but as a talent-spotter, he releases his single "Báilame", which achieved a gold record in the USA. They reunited again on March 2020 and released "Que Raro". Jowell & Randy The favourite and well-known reggaeton duo from their danceable mixes with funny and catchy rhymes have published dozens of singles and mixtapes Since the beginning of the 21st century. Their 2010 album, El Momento, landed at number two on the Top Latin Albums chart while 2013's Sobredoxis placed at number 10. Angel and Khriz Mixtapes and collaborations lead to the success of Angel y Khriz with the 2006 nomination of "Ven Bailalo" for reggaeton song of the year and Los MVP's' gold record status.
Nova and Jory Fernando Sierra known as "Jory Boy", met Nova and the two started a genuine friendship and formed "Nova y Jory" in 2003. Their songs were accepted by his followers after a very important collaboration with Yaga and Mackie in "Perfume". Jory is also Zion's cousin, from the duo Zion & Lennox. Dyland & Lenny Dyland Carlos Castillo Cruz and vocalist Lenny Julio Manuel González Tavarez came together in 2009. Their debut album My World, produced by Luny Tunes, appeared in 2010, following by My World 2 two years later. Both albums became hits, stars such as Pitbull, Gusttavo Lima, and Luis Fonsi were featured on the albums. Ñejo and Dalmata This duo set themselves on urban tropical music. They had solo careers in reggaeton's capitol city of Ponce, Puerto Rico and used their collaborations as a stylistic laboratory, breaking every rule of the genre. Ñejo y Dálmata's debut album Broke and Famous offered the duo a platform to make significant narratives about the music industry. "Pasarela " is a must-known tune. Plan B Plan B formed by Orlando Javier Valle Vega, who is now known as "Chencho Corleone" and Maldy Edwin Vázquez Vega. The two cousins had an attraction to Reggaeton music at an early age.
